Mixed Bag at Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai

A dream like township for artists, Pallava Artists Village, located in Tamil Nadu was built in the early 90’s inspired by the Chola Artists Village. The village houses only artists for them to live for the art. Chennai’s Lalit Kala Akademi is showcasing over 200 artworks by 80 artists from this artistic township. The gallery will be showcasing work by several renowned artists and sculptors including Athiveerapandian, Manohar Natarajan,, Asma Menon, Manohar Natarajan and Elanchezhiyan, G Raman among many other celebrated artists. The exhibition is curated by National award winner A Viswam. It is ‘a tribute to the Village Mookkaiya (Heads)’ Veera Santhanam, M Balasubramaniyam and Natesh Muthuswamy. Along with the celebrated names, even budding artists and students at the Government College of Fine Arts, Egmore and Government College of Fine Arts, Kumbakonam would showcase their work like Sujatha Narayan and Rekha Santoor.

From abstract to acrylic and to painting inspired by feminism icons like Andal to nature, the exhibition promises to be a treasure trove for art lovers. The on-going exhibition will feature personal interactions with writers and filmmakers to make the event more holistic and multi-disciplinary than just focusing on visual art. The exhibition is thus aptly named as Mixed Bag. While the entry is free the artworks to buy are priced from minimum 5,000 INR.
