Mahakumbh to see a mix of Bollywood stars and Folk art

The most anticipated religious gathering in India, MahaKumbh, is set to return early in January 2025. The mela or Fair is held every 12 years and is celebrated with much pomp and spirit. A major attraction for spiritual tourism, this edition is expected to be commemorated at the holy confluence in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Apart from the religious rites, the month-long celebrations will also see immersive cultural experiences. The event that commences on January 20th, 2025 will be at 'Ganga Pandal'. Actor Ashutosh Rana performing as the demon king Ravan in a play Hamare Ram. In the same week, Dreamgirl & BJP MP, Hema Malini will present her ‘Ganga Avartan’ performance. Actor & BJP MP Ravi Kishan will present Shiv Tandav on February 2. Puneet Issar, famous for playing Durodhyana in B R Chopra’s Mahabharat on Feb 21.

The festivities will also include Kathak performances by students of Kathak Kendra and Sangeet Natak Akademy based on the theme of Kumbh. Specially curated presentations like Bharatendu Natya Academy, Lucknow’s Kakori ki Mahagatha and Maitreyi’s Kumbh ka Safarnama.

There are Kavi Samelans on Jan 20, Folk music by Rajesh Prassana, UP Folk Night for audiences to regale. Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will bring together various groups across the globe to present their version of Ramlilas.

Among the popular bands would be Maati Bani, Grammy Award winner and nominee Rickey Kej, Sufi Band Thaikkudam Bridge, Indian Ocean will also perform on various dates through the month.

Some cultural groups like Kolkata’s Golden girls, Manipur’s Bastaar, Prince Group from odisha Dashavatar, Mathura’s Madhava Band will also present their performances.

The grand finale would be on February 23 with Kumbha Gatha.
