Sonu Nigam to pay tribute to his idol Mohd Rafi
India’s most loved playback singer Mohmmad Rafi celebrates his centenary year in December 2024. Considered one of the foremost playback singer, Mohd Rafi recorded over 25000 songs in his career spanning over 40 years. Paying a heartfelt tribute, his ardent fan and the sensational singer Sonu Nigam is all set to perform the legend’s choicest of 50 songs with a 50 piece orchestra.
The show is named as ‘Sau Saal Pehle’, literally translated to hundred years ago will be held at Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) on December 24, 2024. Along with Sonu, his father veteran singer Agam Kumar Nigam would also be participating and performing on stage. Sonu accredits his father to introduce him to Mohd Rafi songs at a young age and remembers performing the songs on stage with his father then.
Even in the past, on many platforms and during many of his interviews, Sonu has expressed his admiration for the maestro. He also insists that Rafi was not just his Guru but also his musical father.
An excerpt of interview with PTI, he said, “Rafi Saab has always been my reference point. Be it Qawalli, sad song, or romantic song, I always wanted to be like him.”
