The Marathi stage is older than independent India. The rich legacy of Marathi theatre, actors, and musicals have been a part of India’s illustrious art history. Till date the Marathi stage industry is active and produces many plays and musicals, which stills find a discerning audience. In 2015, a Marathi musical, Katyar Kaljat Ghusli was adapted on screen and became a nationwide hit. Following the roaring success, actor-director, Subodh Bhave, has taken the mantle of recreating magnum opus Sangeet Manapaman, a 113 year old Marathi musical. The original musical was written, produced and directed by Krishnaji Khadilkar and ruled the Marathi stage for the century and still counting. The songs of this play are still loved by Marathi Natya Sangeet lovers. For the entire 113 years, many actors have featured in this play including Marathi stage legend Bal Gandharva, who played the female lead in this musical.

The music for the screen adaption is composed by the trio SHankar-Ehsaan-Loy and has in total 14 tracks including the original ones and some new tunes. 18 singers have lent their voices for the album including composer singer Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Shivam Mahadevan, National award winners Mahesh Kale, Anand Bhate, Shounak Abhisheki, Bela Shende, Pratibha Singh Baghel among others. The lyrics are penned by Sameer Samant.

The movie that stars Subodh Bhave, Vaidehi Parshuram, Sumit Raghavan, Neena Kulkarni, Nivedita Saraf among other noted Marathi film actors is slated to release on January 10th, 2025. The album was recently launched with the entire star cast and musical team. Produced by Jio Studios the album is under the Sa Re Ga Ma label.
