National Designer Award 2024 celebrates new talent in Indian textile industry
The World Designing Forum, in its seventh edition, brought together over 300 designers across India from all states and regions, giving them a platform to showcase the unique handloom, textile, fabric, and motifs. The event registered 100 plus international delegates comprising fashion enthusiasts, and industry leaders. WDF hosted its National Designer Award 2024 in Goa.
Apart from awards, the event also had panel discussions about the current fashion industry, integration of Indian handloom into global markets, importance of e-commerce, and collaborations with international designers. Indian handloom employs over 4,5 million workers and artisans, and is a cultural identity for our nation. The event showcased how cultural identity is slowly and steadily becoming a global phenomenon.

The event became a platform to highlight how Indian handloom, a symbol of cultural identity, can become a global phenomenon through innovative efforts. Currently, the industry is slightly sluggish due to rocky market access. The forum discussed the possibilities, challenges, and solutions to promote Indian textile in India as well as across the globe.
This year’s prestigious Award Best Designer of the Year 2024 celebrated exceptional talent across three categories, Upcoming, Emerging and established category. The awards for the respective categories were bestowed upon: Priyanka Nag from Maharashtra, Bimwang Newai from Nagaland, Kiruthiga Chandran from Tamil Nadu.
