Five Indian Designers that made it to global headlines

Indian textiles and designs have forever been a talking point for Non-Indian fashion lovers. Be it the use of cotton, silk, the unique motifs, textures, silhouettes, Indian designs have always stood out. The new age designers have successfully juxtaposed the traditional designs with modern silhouettes, grabbing enough attention of all fashion lovers across the globe. Let’s have a quick look at the top five international fashion moments of Indian designers.

Manish Malhotra: Known for his elegant chiffon sarees that defined the 90s Bollywood, Manish Malhotra is the OG dream designer for every Indian girl. However, he made headlines this year in the global fashion diaspora too. From dressing Kardashian sisters for the Ambani wedding to Jenifer Lopez’s Bridegton gown for her 55th birthday to Rihanna’s ruby choker to Heidi Klum dressed in signature Manish Malhotra attire for Lion King premier, Malhotra had a fulfilling 2024.

Sabhyasachi Mukherjee: The current favorite of all Indian brides, Sabhyasachi Mukherjee did some really interesting work beyond Indian borders, making India and Indian fabric popular offshores. Be it Alia Bhatt’s dress at Met Gala to he being the first ever designer to walk the red carpet at the event. His collaboration with Bergdof Goodman or Printemps is also garnering a lot of attention.

Anita Dongre: Anita Styled the iconic Barbie doll that adorns every little girl’s playpen for a Diwali limited edition. The doll was styled in Indian attire and the Signature Diwali Doll was launched globally.

Gaurav Gupta: Nicola Coughlan, actor from the popular series Bridgeton, wore a custom Gaurav Gupta gown at British Fashion Awards this year. However, Gaurav’s brush with international stars isn't new. He has previously dressed Adele, Beyonce among many others.

Rahul Mishra: Well known Italian accessories brand Tod’s collaborated with an Indian designer for the first time. Rahul Mishra gets the honor to be that designer. As he rightly said that when you push the envelope for ‘handmade in India’ to get respect at the top end of luxury, everything else will follow. Pretty much sums up where Indian textiles and design stand today.
