Seven Indian eateries in TasteAtlas Global 100 legendary restaurants

The experiential travel guide, TasteAtlas, recently released their 100 legendary restaurants in the world for their delicious food and seven of India’s own found a spot in it; two of the under the first 10 and two strictly vegetarian eateries.

The Indian restaurants listed are very popular for their respective menu and signature dishes in India. The names of the restaurants are as follows:

Paragon-Kozhikode-No:5: Founded in 1939

Famous for Biryani. The restaurant dates back to early 1940s and is known for its Malabar cuisine. Biryani and Seafood preparations are especially sought after.

Peter’s Cat: Kolkata: Number 7: Founded in 1975

A place loved by generations for its Indo-Iranian cuisine especially their chelow kebabs. Their iconic Red & Gold decor is almost heritage worthy.

Amrik Sukhdev, Murthal: Number: 13 Founded in 1956. This place started as a pitstop or popularly known as Dhaba for truck drivers but soon gained popularity for anyone traveling on that route. Their scrumptious Punjabi meals are loved by one and all but the Aloo Paratha on the menu is the star performer.

Karim’s-Delhi: Number 59: Founded in 1913: A pre-Independence eatery known for its Korma, is originally based in Delhi with two branches in Mumbai too. Interestingly, this eatery was established by Chef or Khansama, Haji Karimuddin, in the royal court of Bahadur Shah Zafar. This place is known for its Indo-Mughlai cuisine.

Central Tiffin Room, Bengaluru: Number 69: Popularly known as CTR among the youth, the place is always crowded for the Benne dosas, Filter Coffee. This place was launched by Y.V. Subramanyam, who would supply food to the royal court of Mysore, is a famous breakfast spot and has a walk-in system with no reservation.

Gulati, Delhi: Number 77th: Launched in 1959: Gulati serves over 170 dishes inclusive of vegetarian as well non-vegetarian menu. However, it's a haven for carnivores, especially Butter Chicken lovers.

Ramashray: Number 78th: Founded in 1939: Amidst an avenue of South Indian restaurants in the locality of Matunga, Mumbai, Ramashraya is one of the most loved for its Upma, Podi Idlis.

The travel Guide recently listed Chicken 65 as the third best fried chicken dish globally and Mumbai as the fifth best city for food. The list of 100 legendary restaurants was curated based not just on the taste but also cultural significance of the eatery and its menu. The 100 restaurants were picked from 23,952 eateries across the globe. Figlmüller, launched in 1905, Vienna,Austria tops the charts of the 100 most legendary restaurants globally.
