India’s Chicken 65 climbs seven notches in Taste Atlas
Taste Atlas, a global guide collating best recipes across countries, have come up with the 'Best Fried Chicken dishes' in the world. The list that enlisted an Indian origin dish, Chicken 65, on the tenth position last year has upgraded its position to Number three, preceded by South Korea Chikin and Japan’s Karage.
The legend goes that the dish Chicken 65 originated in a Chennai’s hotel ’Buhari’ by the owner A M Buhari. There are many versions of its origin from the dish requiring 65 different types of chilies and peppers to it being a special dish that the owner invented for Indian soldiers during 1965 war. It is a quick snack with red chili flavor being the basic flavor. The food guide describes it as “deep-fried chicken that is marinated in ginger, lemon, red chilies, and a variety of other spices."
The guide comes up with various lists throughout the year. Earlier in November, it released a list of 50 Best Bean Dishes and North India’s comfort food, Rajma ranked 14th. In April, a list of Best Indian Stews was released. In the 50 dishes, nine were Indian with 6th being Keema and 50th being Dal (Collective). Earlier too, Vada Pav, Filter Coffee represented India featured on the list for their respective categories. These lists are majorly dominated by Asian dishes and Indian culinary always find a comfortable spots.
