Pune Book Fair clocks 1 Million footfall in 10 days
If we thought that digitisation has taken over the youth and books are outdated, then the recently concluded Pune Book Festival has been a myth-buster. Pune Book Festival, organised by National Book Trust (NBT), received thunderous response by the bibliophiles with 1 Million of them marking their attendance.
The festival was inaugurated by Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadanvis on 14th of December in Pune, also known as Oxford of the East. Held in the beautiful campus of Fergusson College, the book festival had over 700 stalls.
The previous edition of the festival registered 4,50,000 footfall and 11 crore sale which has been superseded this year with 1 Million footfall and 25 Crore Sale. The figures are reassuring the love for books even in today’s world of handheld devices.
The festival also saw the first edition of Pune Lit fest for two days where over 100 new books were launched, attendance of 1,000 authors-national and international was marked, featured over 25 theatrical, musical, and dance performances, keeping the audiences engaged.
The organiser, Rajesh Pande, shared that their vision is to establish the city of Pune as ‘City of Books’.
