Rahman to pay a tribute to the legendary Lata Mangeshkar at IFFI 2024

The game changer in Indian film music, A R Rahman is set to speak at the 55th International Film Festival of India hosted by The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), in Goa from November 20-28 2024. One of the major highlights of this annual festival is a tete-e-tete with the maestro A R Rahman to be conducted by Naman Ramachandran, a distinguished journalist with extensive experience in the Indian film industry.

The interview aptly named as ‘Lata Mangeshkar Memorial Talk’, that is to be a part of the Conversation Series, will pivot majorly through the changing landscape of Indian film music. And who better than A R Rahman to do so? The music composer entered the territory in the early 90’s with what turned out to be a legendary album, Roja and brought in a fresh twist to the music in movies then. Post that, he composed for many movies like Dil Se, Taal, Bombay among many others, each is counted as a classic collection of songs. In his glorious repertoire, one achievement is composing songs that are sung by Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar. The legend, who passed away in 2022, had a run for over six decades in film music and her songs still continue to rule the hearts. Rahman composed songs like Jiya Jale, and Zubeida songs which were sung by her. The composer is going to share his experience working with her, observations about her craft, and how her voice has become the identity in itself!

The talk will be held on the second last day of the week long festival on November 27th, 2024. The talk promises to be an in-depth analysis of the artistic journeys of the both the musical giants!
